public service announcement

gone for a week, may or may not have internet (if I do, it'll be dial-up), will try to work on fic about Rafa having a thing for Novak's glasses but no promises, and if I don't reply to emails in a timely manner, sorry!

oh, also? RAFA WON THE US OPEN. IT WAS AWESOME. (and Barça spanked the Greek club whose name I can't pronounce. keep up the excellent work, boys! these are the kinds of results we like to see.)

Haha, Liverpool is KILLING me right now, and all I can say is thank God the Manchester United-Liverpool game airs waaaaay too early in the US for me to watch it.

And HEE, I already saw your rec post on your LJ, and let me just tell you, I have been gobbling up those fics like nothing else--the issue is that 'cause I'm so new, I don't know all of the players that are being written about yet. (Especially if they're German.) And HEE, what fic are you planning to write?

Oh, and I wanted to ask--I'm still a newbie, but I was wondering if the fandom standard is to uh, deal with Alex Curran, in a certain way. (I'm asking because the fic I'm thinking of writing has her actually in the story, and in a more positive light than I've seen previously.)

inorite >_<;;

lol, I wrote post-WC Iniesta + Valdes gen for [livejournal.com profile] cornerflag. which now that I think about it will be posted soon! yay! I wrote it ages ago and I hate sitting on fic, haha. and oh god, Bundesliga. I can't even. who are these people? why is there so much fic, and why is it never good? (though as always my standard reply to anyone getting into footie is "go to [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka's site, read everything, you will be thoroughly educated when you're done" haha.)

don't even get me started on the way fandom treats Alex Curran. and Mesut Ozil's girlfriend. just... UGH. either their existence is handwaved or they're cheating gold-digging whores so it's totally okay for their boyfriends to be cheating on them too! because that's a fine upstanding moral position to take.

Hee, I'll be sure to check out that site then. And aww, Iniesta and Valdes, AWESOME.

!!! OH THANK GOD IT IS NOT JUST ME. Ahem, sorry, just--really really did not get the reaction people have to Alex Curran, or even to Mesut Ozil's girlfriend. In that case, I'm going to ignore the hell out of the haters and write the fic I want. HMPH.

check out [livejournal.com profile] cornerflag regardless of me, there's a lot of great writers there! (and of course some not-so-great ones, too, so I'll be in good company, lol. but seriously for a rare-pairing ficathon it gets really great entries.)

it's so frustrating, because I've seen some great takes on WAGs - [livejournal.com profile] applefic wrote an amazing Victoria Beckham character study, and there are others that I would look up and link for you if I were on my own computer - but the prevailing majority of fandom is still stuck on the "yay slash ew girls are icky" phase, which just... okay, I'm a woman, I don't really enjoy reading about how all women who interfere with two guys' pure homosexual love are shallow greedy sluts. so: please do write the fic you want, because I want it too!

There are so many fandoms that are stuck in this sort of thinking, and it's really ridiculous--I'm all for slashing pretty guys together, truly, but you don't need to be bashing women to accomplish it. Believe me, it's better if you don't!

OY. Hmph. I'm really starting to think that I have to write this fic, if only to buck this stupid trend.

I always think it's down to a combination of factors - average age of writers, amount of sexism in the source material (and unfortunately there's a lot in professional sports), decent fandom role models, stuff like that - but god, I would like to have a recs list that doesn't include warnings for WAG-bashing. >_>;;
