I find this a lot with the Romans, that they are a deceptive people to study because we can look at them and read their words and we can sort of see ourselves in them, and them in us, and then you look at something that makes you realise how utterly alien they were. idk if that's entirely inarticulate. It just blows my mind, the absolute difference between the world as they perceived it and as we perceive it.
