regarding scifi television
Aug. 25th, 2007 10:10 pmI've given up on Gilmore Girls; I just can't watch people fuck up their relationships on such a daily basis without feeling the strong urge to punch my computer screen. If anybody wants to tell me what happened in seasons 3 through 7, I'd appreciate it, though. I'm curious, just not enough to slog through that much of the show.
In place of girl drama, I have started watching Stargate: Atlantis and Eureka; when I finish those I expect I'll try and fit in the current incarnation of Dr. Who. SGA is, as far as I can tell, a marvelously prolific fandom, and seems to cross authors with SPN quite a bit, which does help me find fic I like.
astolat in particular provides long, wonderful, heart-warming tales of McKay/Sheppard, which I gather is the ship of choice. I have a crazy soft spot for Zelenka, though. I want to cuddle him to my bosom and never let go, mad Czech scientist that he is. Sheppard is clearly the show's pretty-boy (and boy is he pretty), but I actually like McKay better, pudge notwithstanding. He's such a whiny bitch! And a genius at the same time!
In the spirit of the love of Rodney McKay, I hereby pimp Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose for all, um, two of you who have seen SGA. It's ostensibly gen, although the shadow cast by the absence of the relationship sort of hangs over the story until you figure out what happened. I teared up the first time I read this, and then immediately returned to the beginning to read it all again, and I cried the second time through, too. It's Rodney after Atlantis, teaching physics at a completely unremarkable American university, and it's academia, which is clearly a big thing for me, but also just so well-conceived and well-executed that despite the lack of porn and the fact that it makes me cry, I want to read it over and over again.
