In fulfillment of a vow to
khoshgeleh_16, I am hereby spamming the fuck out of you all with the lovely and potentially lesbian ladies of Athletic Bilbao.
Our protagonists in this fine tale are as follows:
Irune Murua

Striker, born in 1986 and transferred to Athletic in 2003 a year after her previous club, Retuerto, was relegated. (In her year in the lower divisions she scored 57 goals in 20 games. Slow down, girl!) She played mainly with Athletic's B team in her first year, but she was promoted full-time to the first team in 2004-05 and has remained there ever since. Elder stateswoman, relatively speaking, since she's old enough to have actually won multiple titles with Athletic (I say it with love): the league in '04, '05 and '07.
Nekane "Neka" Diez

Also a striker, born in 1991 and transferred to Athletic from MariƱo in 2007, landing in the first team right away. Her first year was the last that Athletic played in the UEFA Women's Cup (now called the UEFA Women's Champions League). Baby of the group.
Joana Flaviano

Outcast from the strikers club (aka a midfielder), born in 1990 and joined Athletic's B team in 2005. She played exactly one league match with Athletic's first team in 2006-07, the last season in which Athletic won the title, and joined the first team full-time in '07-'08, which was also Neka's first year. Woman in the middle, age-wise.
If you're looking for long narratives about the lives and loves of these ladies, you're shit out of luck, sorry. There's no fic and there's pretty much no media coverage, either. All I can tell you is what I've guessed from statistics and Twitter: even in a very close-knit team, they're noticeably close, they maybe live together (female athletes in Spain don't really make any money; so far as I can tell most of them live with their parents), and they refer to each other (and nobody else!) as "txutxi", which means something like "sweetie". The rough narrative arc of their time together is easy enough to sketch out from match statistics: Joana and Neka joined Irune at Athletic when they were both teenagers and Irune was barely into her twenties, but she had already achieved sporting success that has so far remained out of reach for the younger two. Their quest for glory together culminated in this season that just ended, in which Athletic Bilbao came achingly close to two trophies, only to come in second in both the Superliga (to Barcelona) and the Copa de la Reina (to Espanyol). But combined with the ups and downs of the Athletic Ladies are the ups and downs of everyday life: school, training, following the travails of the men's team, and of course spending vast quantities of time together. What they do in that free time I leave up to your imagination! The following collection of twitpics may help you make some educated guesses, at least.
