meh. ever get those fabulous plot bunnies that would be totally AWESOME if only they could be written without quite so much effort? I kind of want to spit a few out. feel free to ignore it will bother you that they will probably never actually get written.

The curtain rises on Doumeki, sitting in some spiritual back-alley with Watanuki's rapidly-cooling corpse. Enter Yuuko, this one time a little too late. Doumeki, swiftly losing his ever-present cool, demands that Yuuko fix what has happened. Nothing can be done without a price, of course; Doumeki, at the moment, doesn't particularly care. Yuuko looks briefly regretful, then blows out a mouthful of smoke into Doumeki's face, and when he's done coughing Watanuki is waking up.

Watanuki's first words are, "Ow ow ow my head hurts! Yuuko-san, what happened? ...Who are you?"

He does not recognize Doumeki.

After some verbal maneuvering, Doumeki manages to wrangle out of Yuuko that what she did to "fix" things was to switch their dimension with a very similar one, in which Doumeki died as a very small, sickly child. Since he wasn't there on the night Watanuki died, Yuuko had given him stronger protections, and Watanuki didn't have the chance to get in between Doumeki and the spiritual projectile coming at him that he couldn't see. Doumeki must pay off his debt with a year and a day of servitude to Yuuko. (At some later point in the narrative, Doumeki realizes that a year and a day is nowhere near a big enough price, and corners Yuuko about it. She crossly points out that he wasn't the only person who wanted Watanuki to stay alive. Moro chopped off his hair, Maru promised to grow hers out, and Yuuko and Mokona gave up alcohol, a bitter price indeed.)

In this dimension, Doumeki quickly discovers, Watanuki is calmer, more confident, and well on his way to becoming a kick-ass sorcerer. He's also completely over Himawari-chan. He and the Zashiki-Warashi are best friends and meet every week for tea. The Pipe Fox is still ridiculously attached to him. In fact, what Doumeki is realizing, much to his dismay, is that Watanuki doesn't really need him, and seems to have been better off without him. Cue angst.

Potentially also cue Watanuki 2.0 falling head over heels for Doumeki's pure spirit, which he's more aware of than Watanuki 1.0 due to his increased spiritual abilities. Lots of blushing and stammering ensues. I cannot figure out what happens next, which is half of why I can't write this, the other half being that I'm too damn lazy to write out the episodes while Doumeki gradually comes to his conclusions about the world without him.

I offered this up as a general bunny to [profile] sublimeparadigm, and I'm confident she'll do it justice. However, I'm more interested in the 11th Division side than the IchiIshi angst. I started writing it, only to realize that I had no idea where it was going and also I wasn't really interested in getting there anyway.

In a massive crime syndicate under the auspices of overlord Ukitake (come on, he would make a hilariously unexpected kumichou), Zaraki's squad is in charge of roughing people up and general intimidation. Zaraki is a traditionalist who favors a sword or his bare hands over guns; Madarame follows his example, while Yumichika is a major-league bitch with an AK-47 (despite looking too fragile to handle the kick on it). Yachiru is already fearsome with throwing knives, ninja darts, and the derringer Yumi bought her for Christmas. Kira is Madarame's intensely shy and retiring mistress, still recovering after fleeing an abusive relationship with Ichimaru Gin, a lieutenant in Aizen's gang, with whom Ukitake's syndicate is currently having a turf war. Despite looking about as threatening as a wet kitten, Kira will eventually astonish all around him by proving to be an expert with a sniper rifle, as well most types of automatic and semi-automatic guns.

Kyouraku is in charge of "film" and Nanao handles the monetary aspect of the business. Rangiku runs a host club with the help of Hitsugaya, a street kid she took in. Urahara used to develop experimental drugs, before he was assaulted by a fit of conscience and left the group entirely, at which point Mayuri took over and started creating much more dangerous concoctions.

But yeah. Turf war. Violence ensues. People die. I don't want anyone to die so I'll never actually write this far. Oh well.
