tennis for the lolz
Aug. 17th, 2009 08:35 pmtennis has been entertaining today! (let's not discuss the mess that took place yesterday. Dina, it's fucking JANKOVIC, for god's sake!) Marat won something (this, like, never happens, unless we're talking about the award for "Sexiest Tennis Player"), my favorite doubles couples (Momo and Sveta & FeLo and Fer, since alas Rafa and Nole are not actually playing together in Cincy) both came through, the ever-adorable David won (although I feel bad for Stan), the Chipmunk got taken out by one of the Bondarenko sisters, and Masha is playing even as I type.
but far, far more awesome: the pressers. Rafa was absurdly smiley and laid-back while discussing his pessimistic outlook on his prospects for winning things and getting back to #2 or #1, such that I can't even be upset. he looks so freaking happy just to be on the tennis court again. how could I be sad? and even better is the way Fed is sniping at Murray in the press. I hate Fed's backhanded compliments when they're directed at Rafa, but I never claimed to be less than partisan; they're hilarious when he's being bitchy about Murray. for serious, someone asked Fed if he felt Muzz was a serious threat and he replied, and I quote, "He’s almost won everything there is to win except, let’s say US Open and the Masters. He’s done really well." BRB LOLING FOREVER. also? "Of course Andy and myself have both benefited of Rafa being injured. We both took advantage of it. I won both majors and he won Toronto now, or Montreal. He’s done really well." WAY TO BE A BITCH ROGER. PLEASE CONTINUE, I JUST WANT TO GET SOME POPCORN.
I think it's pretty interesting that both Fed and Murray choose to get very nice about Rafa when they're taking swipes at each other, even though Fed has made some pretty unpleasant comments about Rafa himself. I mean, Rafa is way too much of a sweetie to be rude about people (except Soldermort, I guess), but he definitely becomes this weapon that Federer and Muzz use against each other, presumably because regardless of where he sits in the rankings he has a ridiculous edge on both of them in the head-to-head. I'm curious to see what Muzz comes up with in response. BITCH FIGHT PLZ.
