meretricula: Rrrrrrafa Nadal! (whatever)

I know basically one person maybe possibly cares, but... is this real life?

http://twitter.com/fuckontdtennis

"SHUT UP. IF YOU WROTE TENNISSLASH YOU'D HAVE BETTER GRAMMER." orly? because... all signs point to no. they also point to hilarity, and the poetic justice of twitter's lack of spellcheck.

I mean, I keep reading, because I'm kind of addicted and even low-quality crack is better than none, but there are about five active writers in tennis fandom with a solid grasp of the English language. let's not even talk about characterization, folks. is that bitchy? in a word, yes. also, accurate.

(for serious, this is the most amazing twitter I've seen in ages. it reeks of bitterness and rage. I've never before thought that "butthurt" could be the most legitimate description of anyone or anything, but it's marvelously apropos.)

First I heard about it was glimpsing this at gauloises' 20 minutes ago: "It's nice to know that even in the #tennisfandomwar, everyone can still get together on hating Murray." *snerk*

I'm still not sure what the heck exploded on or over whom, but anyone even thinking of pimping Del Potro/cheesecake as the pairing of the month over on tennisslash automatically wins points with me.

idk, I think basically somebody got fed up with the Armada love over at ontd_tennis and threw a shitfit on twitter. which, you know, okay, I get that not everybody is into the Armada and ontd_tennis is a little Spanish-centric, but ffs, if you have a problem either go somewhere else (there's a reason I don't hang out at fedal_slash much) or post what you're interested in. it's just kind of ridiculous. (yet entertaining. I'm glad this happened while I was bored at work!)

For real? Lordie. Sounds like the same breed of whiner at some of the other forums/comms incessantly kvetching about how every conversation becomes about Roger or Rafa. (I mean, I'd rather talk about other players too, but bitching about the ones that _are_ being talked about is so not the way to go about getting your guys more love. Sheesh.)

On a happier note, I'm still making offerings to the tennis gods on behalf of my 2010 wishlist, which is currently for Rafa to keeping pwning Roger, DelPo to keep beating Rafa, and Roger to resume beating DelPo. And for a Fedaltro fic or three. The sheer potential for cheesy, cheesecakey collective dorktasticness is just begging for the right hijinks-and-comfort treatment...;-)

lololol, idk, all I want ficwise (aside from Rafa/Nole becoming recognized and respected as OTP, obvs) is some JMDP/Pico or JMDP/Gonzo. so adorable! (did you see the pics of Pico crying at DC and JMDP trying to comfort him? my heart breaks.)

Oh yes. Easily the hurt/comfort pic of the year, and possibly of ever.

...and it is completely your fault that I spent part of my morning writing Pico/Elf fic. You and your bunnies, gah! *shakes tube of SPF 30 at you*

the Argentinians are so pretty when they cry. (actually the one of Pico and Leonard Mayer, who will forever be Horseface to me, is pretty heart-wrenching too. BOYS ;_;)

haha, WIN%2Pr

just looking at this makes me sad for Pico. Horseface looks so worried.

Oh dear, yes.

Man, Mayer is beautiful at that angle.

he's basically beautiful until he opens his mouth and shows off those teeth! poor thing.

Better unfortunate teeth than unfortunate wordage. (Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Querrey, I'm looking at YOU.)

trufax - though what on earth did Sammy California say that's so terrible? my sole impression of him is "laid-back, potentially high surfer dude".

Querrey lost me as a potential fan when he thought it was okay to tweet "@dantheintern is searching for his first black friend" (July 12). There's probably an in-joke or innocuous explanation for it I haven't come across, but without any other context to go by, it hit me as clueless at best and uncool at worst. Same with his multiple tweets during Wimbledon about getting punched by random homeless people - if it's true, he's a dope for getting caught off-guard so many times, and if it's not, he's an asshole for thinking that's funny.

From: [identity profile] meretricula.livejournal.com
oh, wow. never saw that. idk, I would also want an explanation, but it strikes me as more a tasteless in-joke than anything - I don't think Sam has caught on to the fact that now he's semi-famous he can't get away with all the dumbass fratboy shit anymore. but still, I don't think it's quite on the same level as what Lleyton did. (for what it's worth, I thought the Wimbledon tweets were true. and I thought they were pretty funny.)

Eh, I'll cop to humor-impairment on my part. (Haven't seen anyone else perturbed by it.) All the same, I think I come by it honestly, as someone saying "so-and-so is looking for his first Asian friend" would make me want to have nothing to do with them.

As for his Wimbledon misfortunes, I can see how his fecklessness =entertaining -- but nonetheless, I can't help feeling hugely uncomfortable about them: as queasy as "blame the victim" scenarios make me, I have to wonder if Querrey was truly minding his own business when the attacks took place. Most of the homeless people I've met are about staying out of trouble, not creating it.

IOW, while I kinda hate myself for not giving SQ the benefit of the doubt, he basically gives a major young-white-male-privilege vibe that I can't get past. (Mind, I'm totally inconsistent on who gets free passes from me - Fed and Murray and Roddick have all disappointed (and even infuriated) me on multiple occasions, but I continue to root for them anyway, and I'll absolutely defend anyone cheering on a player (SQ included) without caring about his character. (Musical analogy: Wagner. Out-assholes anyone in the ATP by an order of 1000+, but life would be poorer without Tannhauser.))

lol, oh, Wagner. I really don't like his music, so I have no such quandary. (one of my orchestras was all set to play the Siegfried Idyll last year... until a Jewish orchestra member pointed out that the concert fell on a major Jewish holiday. that program got redone real fast.)

idk, really, I cheer for people pretty much solely based on personality, since I don't watch much tennis as a sport. I do care about whether they're assholes. but honestly Sam Querrey, at least as far as I've seen, doesn't really out-asshole or out-young-male-privilege (I'll grant he's whiter than most) the rest of the top 50 or so of the ATP. they're all male, young, and rich, and they're all privileged, and they all live in a bubble where all that really matters is hitting a fuzzy yellow ball across the net. I'm more pleasantly surprised when someone really steps out of the bubble to say or do something socially conscious.

I don't eeeeeven know what's going on with this whole thing. Is the twitter a joke? Why is tennis_crack posting at ontd_tennis? Does this really have something to do with Justine Henin maybe-possibly coming out of retirement? I am so confused :/ Although I have to say, compared to most fandoms' wank, tennis wank is almost charmingly tame.

ohhhhh, is that what was up with the "you've been crack'd" macro? I get it now! (I'm not on tennis_crack. should I be? is it entertaining?)

From what I hear, it was all pretty lighthearted fun and games between ontd_t and tennis_crack before someone decided to throw a twitterfit.

I don't really read much of it. For me it's hit and miss, but I'm willing to admit that I probably don't get most of it. It seems like a pretty small number of really active members.
