wait, what?
Sep. 21st, 2009 09:29 pmI know basically one person maybe possibly cares, but... is this real life?

"SHUT UP. IF YOU WROTE TENNISSLASH YOU'D HAVE BETTER GRAMMER." orly? because... all signs point to no. they also point to hilarity, and the poetic justice of twitter's lack of spellcheck.
I mean, I keep reading, because I'm kind of addicted and even low-quality crack is better than none, but there are about five active writers in tennis fandom with a solid grasp of the English language. let's not even talk about characterization, folks. is that bitchy? in a word, yes. also, accurate.
(for serious, this is the most amazing twitter I've seen in ages. it reeks of bitterness and rage. I've never before thought that "butthurt" could be the most legitimate description of anyone or anything, but it's marvelously apropos.)

Date: 2009-09-22 04:16 am (UTC)I'm still not sure what the heck exploded on or over whom, but anyone even thinking of pimping Del Potro/cheesecake as the pairing of the month over on tennisslash automatically wins points with me.

Date: 2009-09-22 05:08 am (UTC)On a happier note, I'm still making offerings to the tennis gods on behalf of my 2010 wishlist, which is currently for Rafa to keeping pwning Roger, DelPo to keep beating Rafa, and Roger to resume beating DelPo. And for a Fedaltro fic or three. The sheer potential for cheesy, cheesecakey collective dorktasticness is just begging for the right hijinks-and-comfort treatment...;-)

Date: 2009-09-25 06:27 pm (UTC)...and it is completely your fault that I spent part of my morning writing Pico/Elf fic. You and your bunnies, gah! *shakes tube of SPF 30 at you*

Date: 2009-10-01 12:52 am (UTC)As for his Wimbledon misfortunes, I can see how his fecklessness =entertaining -- but nonetheless, I can't help feeling hugely uncomfortable about them: as queasy as "blame the victim" scenarios make me, I have to wonder if Querrey was truly minding his own business when the attacks took place. Most of the homeless people I've met are about staying out of trouble, not creating it.
IOW, while I kinda hate myself for not giving SQ the benefit of the doubt, he basically gives a major young-white-male-privilege vibe that I can't get past. (Mind, I'm totally inconsistent on who gets free passes from me - Fed and Murray and Roddick have all disappointed (and even infuriated) me on multiple occasions, but I continue to root for them anyway, and I'll absolutely defend anyone cheering on a player (SQ included) without caring about his character. (Musical analogy: Wagner. Out-assholes anyone in the ATP by an order of 1000+, but life would be poorer without Tannhauser.))

Date: 2009-10-01 01:25 am (UTC)idk, really, I cheer for people pretty much solely based on personality, since I don't watch much tennis as a sport. I do care about whether they're assholes. but honestly Sam Querrey, at least as far as I've seen, doesn't really out-asshole or out-young-male-privilege (I'll grant he's whiter than most) the rest of the top 50 or so of the ATP. they're all male, young, and rich, and they're all privileged, and they all live in a bubble where all that really matters is hitting a fuzzy yellow ball across the net. I'm more pleasantly surprised when someone really steps out of the bubble to say or do something socially conscious.
