I ran out of space on my epic post of Barça-stalking (this is how you know you've been in a fandom too long...) but I'm not letting stupid length limits get me down. no sir! I guess I'll just have to make new sections and link to them as I go. I promise I'll do one on the Twitter Bros (aka Alcantaras + JDS) and/or Barça B soon, but for now...
in all fairness, Messi/Villa is not really the kind of 'ship that drew me to Barcelona. Villa just transferred in; he's close with a bunch of the Spanish players at Barça but he'd probably say his best friends in football are Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres, who obviously don't play at Barcelona, and while he and Messi clearly have always respected each other (class recognizes class, haha), their interaction has mostly been limited to playing against each other and doing the occasional adidas ad. but hey, I'm allowed to be shallow in my own post, and while they may not have backstory like Victor and Andres, they do have chemistry like whoa. I keep saying, the best part of Villa's transfer has been getting to see him fall head over heels in love with Leo's football. (that, and all the goal hugs. shut up.)

(oh the pornstache. please god that it may never return)

(as you can see, they did get along before they were on the same team. ignore Leo's hair, moving on...)

a bit of background on the next few pictures - Messi and Villa had to do an adidas product launch together before the World Cup, so they knew they were going to be teammates but hadn't played together yet. (write-up from a journalist on the ground at the event here.) the launch was mainly notable for the hilarious incident at the press conference when Messi was asked about the Danish team, clearly had no clue what to say, and turned to look at Villa for help, which was not forthcoming. basically they were very cute together, even though at that point they didn't know each other very well!

one video before we move on - I apologize for the shitty quality, but I love this moment. Villa scored off a Messi assist in a match against Deportivo. his reluctance to let go of Leo afterward is simultaneously adorable and really awkward.
Messi/Villa has captured the imagination of the fandom a bit more than the usual pairings (quelle surprise, they're prettier), so there is actually a bit of fic to read if you're into that.
brojan,
luxover and
una_surrealista would probably be your first stops, and the AU where Leo models for art classes by
andcleverest does things to my insides. fingers crossed that fandom will keep writing them, because there's definitely been an upswing in fic since Villa showed up on the scene!
