ok, first up: I feel horrible, awkward and guilty about the fact that Football RPF, despite everyone's best efforts to separate the constituent fandoms, got lumped all together and still made it through. it is not a fucking yuletide fandom, okay, it has a holiday fic exchange already. but I am not going to be the hyper-correct grinch who ruins Christmas, so... there's that. swear to god, though, next year I will for reals say something to the mods and we can all write fic about ladyballers instead. I am sort of wishing now that I'd nominated the Leonas instead, because I could ask for that guilt-free on account of how Women's Soccer RPF is its own separate fandom. HINDSIGHT IS 20/20, ETC. though weirdly enough it seems like the subfandoms made it through too? only they're currently uncategorized so they're not in the RPF list? god, I'm so confused. PEOPLE WHO LIKE BARÇA, VOLUNTEER TO WRITE BARÇA SO I CAN GET MY VICTOR/ANDRES FIC. (...the only potentially relevant person is [livejournal.com profile] stickmarionette, isn't it. yay for teensy subfandoms?) I promise I will volunteer for all the relevant people in Football RPF as well.

anyway! I like the new list features on the AO3, everything looks very nice and it's easier to browse. check it out!

I am so pathetically out of manga fandom that the only thing I could maybe write is Gokusen. I stopped reading xxxHOLiC so long ago that I'd be screwed if I volunteered for that. and I am pleased Viewfinder got nominated but I can't write anything that pornographic. good lord, someone nominated a Nora Roberts trilogy, I am tempted to volunteer just for the lulz. nobody ever seems to write fic for romance novels. someone nominated all the boring characters in the Aeneid, sigh. why no faithful Achates? wondering if whoever nominated it was going for a "convention of women whose lives Aeneas has ruined" theme. there's always so many books that I like but would be afraid to write for but yesssssssss someone nominated The Masqueraders and their priorities are on straight because they got Pru and Tony. half the characters in the Protector of the Small set are from the wrong series, boo. HOW THE FUCK IS SOCIAL NETWORK RPF A YULETIDE FANDOM, THAT IS RIDICULOUS. ...someone nominated Brahms and Schumann. I kind of don't think I could volunteer for a fandom where I'd have to ask my dad for background info. which is what I did the last time I wrote Brahms/Schumann. oooooh Texts From Last Night. strongly tempted to volunteer just to see what people could come up with as a prompt!

but first the assignment I am theoretically staying up all night for. I'll do sign-ups on Thursday. it'll be my reward for making it that far.

actually, they're all in, under uncategorized. they're basically subtags under the big footie tag, but the wranglers haven't gotten there yet.

Date: 2011-11-16 05:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meretricula.livejournal.com
no, I know, but Football RPF also made it in, and I know that in most cases that was because people nominated it as Football RPF, so it's not something a wrangler would be able to fix. I am getting the twitchy "just let me catalog this properly IT IS NOT CORRECT" librarian feeling, haha.

yeah, I noticed a few characters (generally older Mannschafters) who made it in there but didn't get stuffed into the Mannschaft category. Perhaps we can sort the large list and send it to the mods?

dude, footie made it through? I'm not up on the whole nominations process and how it all works, but weirddd.

also, UGH, I still have NO IDEA what I want to offer/request! so many choices, so little time! :p

I think it's the same problem that led to Hetalia making it through last year - the people checking aren't familiar with that corner of fandom. and the animanga folks were mad enough to make noise, but I think sports RPF just doesn't care, haha. though also almost the entire list is doubled from the team fandoms, which leads me to wonder if it's partly some sort of ghost effect. ([livejournal.com profile] fandomonymous is bravely sallying forth to tell the mods thing have been wrangled wrong, so fingers crossed it'll get cleared up somehow...)

well, we have a little time. thank god. XD

ahh kk. yeah I can see how it wld easily happen. I guess just being part of footie fandom for so long makes me forget that other ppl aren't as familiar with it lolol. hopefully it gets cleared up a little. because yeah, even last year I didn't offer/request because footie fandom in its entirety being available didn't feel quite right for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

srsly. I've started an epic wade through the nominated fandoms list rn.

I'm not even sure if what I think is the end was the end, or just the end in fanfic. did Yuuko vanish and leave Watanuki in charge of the shop?

ugggh. After all that, I've checked my due dates, which are different than last year's due dates (boo, UvA) and I really just can't devote the time to both Yuletide and getting my papers in on time. And papers win. Maybe next year again...

yeah. :( Last year Yuletide was in the middle of my class because of the Utrecht system, but I'm doing a class in Amsterdam and their classes end, which means my paper-writing, in December. Also I'm working on another project that I've sort of pushed back until now. :/ No Yuletide time.

Okay, I finally complained about the Barca filing thing because it was making my inner librarian twitch. *g* Other than that, omg Chinese History RPF was nominated! If someone wrote fic about Zhou Enlai it would probably blow my mind. Actually, I might offer for it, come to think. :D

I twitch in solidarity! XD WHY CAN THINGS NOT BE PROPERLY CATALOGUED THE WAY I WANT THEM.

the glory of yuletide, man. do it!!! (lol I keep thinking I should nominate South American Revolutionaries RPF so I could finally get the Simon Bolivar/Jose de San Martin fic I wanted when I read about them in tenth grade history, but it would end being all Che Guavera fic, I suppose.)

I know, right? (Just the other day I was pitching a fit over how I wanted to tag XMFC characters in my own writing comm.)

The curse of popular history. *g* Some part of me has been itching to write about Chinese revolutionaries all my life. Although dear Lord the research that would involve. It's been years since I read all those trashy tell-alls about Mao and Zhou.

i will totally totally write brahms and schumann. just saying.

going through the list of nominated fandoms now, lol at the social network making it on. NIJINSKY IS THERE OMG I WANNA WRITE NIJINSKY FIC. and liszt and chopin are there. man, the classical music people did good on nominations! tchaikovsky violin concerto rpf, be still my heart! and arthurian legend.

SO MANY TO PICK FROM, HOW CAN IT EVEN BE DONE???

From: [identity profile] meretricula.livejournal.com
Brahms and Schumann are such delightful angst bunnies, but idk. too much tragedy. same with Nijinsky. I just want Gershwin hilariously stalking Ravel through the streets of New York to ask him for the ~secret of ~art until Ravel slaps him upside the head and/or deflowers him. (lol slashers gonna slash. did a project on Paganini in ninth grade, immediately slashed him with Berlioz. poor Berlioz.)

throw darts and volunteer for everything! :D foolish overcommitment your first yuletide is basically an essential life lesson.

JAJAJAJ GERSHWIN AND RAVEL. could also totally get on board with that. (lol oh god did you really?)

right now i'm thinking madrid rpf and barca rpf (although volunteering for two football 'fandoms' seems like cheating??? so maybe not, maybe just madrid rpf, sry bro) and then composer rpf and arthurian legend, idk

Cautionary tale about submitting nominations at stupid o'clock in the morning: I was just looking through the tennis RPF nominations and was like, WHO SPELLED TSONGA'S NAME WRONG ON THEIR NOMINATION and oh, wait, yeah, that was me. *facepalm*

By some strange quirk of fandom medium preference, there are actually fewer than 200 TSN RPF stories on the AO3, but it does have a kinkmeme and a secret santa exchange so...I don't even know?

Go go go with your assignment! You can do it *\o/*

lolololol I knew you were the one who nominated the Frenchies. you gonna ask for Jo/Gael?

Obvious nomination was obvious, haha. You were the one who nominated Chrissie and Martina, right? I don't know what I'm going to ask for, I like everyone who was nominated so I might just leave it open and list like, ten things I'd love to read in my dear-author letter. Or is that cheating? I was so focused on nominations this year that I didn't really think much about what I was going to offer or request, lol self.

Even with the bigger fandoms you'll still probably get only a handful of fic at most but I don't really understand why people nominate fandoms where you can have all the fic you want! when you could nominate the tiny fandom of no fic whatsoever.

The wrangling, it got done! \o/ :D I got like three e-mails from the mods basically internally debating whether or not they'd be able to do it, and then they did. :)

My request fandoms will be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (fandom of my eternal heart), Mannschaft (I'm...just requesting Philipp and then letting the prompter go wild. /o\), and Good Eats (because "that's another show", and I'd like another show, and that'll be more lighthearted and zany than the others put together no doubt).

Fandoms I'm excited to write about are those, Glitch (a cute little Flash MMORPG with a surprising amount of depth), a couple of anime (Bakemonogatari made it! FLCL! Mawaru Penguindrum! Makdoka! Nausicaa!) and very odd and wonderful video games (Katamari Damacy would be *hilarious*. FF6 and Earthbound made it too, two of my personal favorites.)
