Date: 2011-12-06 10:07 pm (UTC)this is actually why I think they go well together, because could you imagine the horror if Silva was involved with someone just like him, good lord...
...Silva needs some fun in his life, you know?
I think it's interesting the way that, of all his teammates at City, he seems most drawn to Adam, Joe et al all of whom enjoy a good time (if you know what I mean!). It's not really what I would have guessed would happen when he transferred, you know? But I like it, he always seems to be having so much fun with them. It's nice.
Sometimes he just prefers sulking and moping to actually doing something about the criticism.
and this is why, sometimes, I think they'd be doomed to failure (or at least some really vicious fights where Silva tells Adam things Adam really, really doesn't want to hear, especially not from his boyfriend) because Silva sulks (I will never be convinced he doesn't) but he's always, always trying to improve. And I'm not sure how much he would put up with someone who wasn't prepared to do that but hey, what do I know?

I know! I think to start with he was probably sort of intrigued by them...like, who are these strange boys who goof around and randomly break into song and treat football, aka their jobs, their lives as something other than deathly serious. And then somewhere along the way he realised that actually, that's a pretty fun way to go about living your life, even if he can't quite shake the feeling that football is the most important thing ever.
In my head, they sulk in different ways...Silva sulks at himself, gets angry at himself. And Adam sulks at other people, blames other people (mainly Roberto Mancini and Stewart Downing and yes, on occasion, Silva) for his many and various woes. And maybe that has to do with his age and lack of experience and the fact that for quite a few years now he's been hearing about how he's the next big thing and he's a star and a prodigy and he's just getting a bit impatient waiting for all these predictions to come to pass.
It's weird...I sort of think the person who's most like Silva at City (other than Mancini, obvs) is maybe Milner. Except Milner's smile is a little less ready and he seems to be completely and utterly impervious to the cold. But he's another one, I think, who just cannot actually comprehend anything but a ruthless, cutthroat, life or death attitude to football.

exactly! though, obviously, football is still the most important thing ever but maybe a little fun is okay too...

on this you and I agree and I really think Adam has to get over that before he can become a really great player

YES! Milner=totally professional, totally focused at all times on football. Did you read this? He is one driven guy. And in the #askjames thing he's all like I wouldn't even have a glass of champagne if we won the title. He kind of makes Silva look relaxed about football...
...and now I'm back to wanting read Silva/Milner.

Date: 2011-12-06 11:06 pm (UTC)Yep. Especially after watching them deep in conversation on the trusty Tunnel Cam this weekend...even if the conversation did seem to revolve around how Gael's a scruffy so-and-so who doesn't tuck his shirt in properly or something.
Man, one day I'll polish this '5 times' piece I started literally months ago at the height of my Adam Johnson rage. A rage which continues to simmer but abated somewhat with all the contract-signing and goal-scoring and wonderful interviews etc.

Date: 2011-12-06 11:51 pm (UTC)it made me giggle, they just looked so serious about it, and then Silva went and actually fixed Gael's shirt, too cute!

i'm just, you know, going to wait quietly and patiently for that day...

Date: 2011-12-10 10:31 pm (UTC)I'll confess that I only really paid attention to him as a player (in the sense that I admired him as a player but didn't really pay any attention to his personal life etc) until he came to City.
And they (meaning the british press and the club to a certain extent) really do try to emphasize that he's a model professional, I remember reading an article towards the beginning of last season (I wish I had bookmarked it!) about City's youth set up where the guy in charge basically said something to the effect that he told them to be like Silva in their approach because he was so professional, didn't go out and party/drink/etc (the strong implication in the article being - be like Silva not like Joe/Adam/etc - the article was written around the time they all went to Scotland and got really trashed with a bunch of students - and got caught on video).

Date: 2011-12-11 03:08 am (UTC)I do think the thing with Joe/Adam/Barry (and maybe Shay Given?) last year was on a break and I believe it became a big deal because a) they got caught on video and b) Mancini made a really big deal about it - I'd have to look back at the articles from that time to be sure though

Date: 2011-12-10 10:36 pm (UTC)I don't think it should be destroyed. I really do think Silva takes football very, very seriously. But, um, it's possible he also takes fun very, very seriously. (and also, apparently wrestling--wrestling while drunk....).
I know, what is up with the costumes? Inquiring minds want to know...

Date: 2011-12-10 10:41 pm (UTC)Based on the Fashion Kicks no-show, I will be very surprised if Silva gets dressed up too outlandishly (unless someone plies him with tequila or something...look on it as a public service, Joe Hart...)... city TV are teasing us most cruelly lately!

that is pretty much the only way I imagine Silva getting dressed up in something crazy. someone should send Joe Hart tequila, or, um, something like that, ahem....
