on the one hand I feel so satisfied because GRANBY, A WHOLE BOOK OF GRANBY, but clearly this was still not enough Granby. (and I was so close to right about so many things, and yet so very far!)

ahahahaha maybe Little has taken up with Chenery in Granby's absence and so he will be tragically disappointed yet again? and then he and Tharkay can be tragically disappointed together! I mean, Tharkay's tragic disappointment being heterosexual in nature is a little bit tricky but we can work with this.

oh nooo, that is too sad-! Though all in fairness, Granby DID leave unexpectedly to Australia thanks to Iskierka. I'm sure he wrote to Little, but personal headcanon says that they weren't exclusive with each other.

and, pffft, we can fix this, easy as pie -- Tharkay is bi. CLEARLY.

I am delighted by Spoiler Fanon Becoming Canon but apparently in writing all this Tharkay/Granby I have become EXTREMELY INVESTED IN THARKAY/GRANBY and I am greedy and I want it alllllll to be canon! (lmao Laurence reacted exactly the way everyone expected. bless his awkward English heart.)

I miss Jane, though. and Perscitia. (weirdly enough I didn't miss Tharkay as a character. I'm sure he'll be back, though. and has anyone written the AU where Laurence takes him up on the offer and they go off to become pirates privateers instead?)

I did miss Tharkay but he's my favorite non-dragon. (I missed Perscitia, too.) And yeah, it's amazing how much more assured I feel about various side characters and plotlines being satisfactorily taken care of since I know the writer responsible is one of us. XD

...I think the answer to both of those questions is no. Unfortunately. Though I could v. possibly be out of the loop.

Urgh, ok, I'm not reading any of the comments, because I don't want to be spoiled, but -- I really didn't like Tongues of Serpents. Is Crucible similar to Tongues? Do you think you could give me an estimate of, say, the percentage of the novel Lawrence spends wallowing in self-pity and Temeraire spends whinging about how no one will listen to his brilliant plans to remake society in a fair and equable manner without spoiling anything?

um, well, I didn't like Tongues of Serpents either and I looooooooved Crucible of Gold, but part of that might just be that Granby gets tons of screentime and he's my favorite ever. I feel like there's less whining, more action? but I was basically just rolling around shrieking GRANBY GRANBY MY POOR ABUSED BABY WHY IS YOUR LIFE TERRIBLE WHY IS THIS HILARIOUS the entire time, so.

hee, no problem! I'll keep an eye out for any more. ;)
