fic: changeless
Mar. 16th, 2007 11:50 pmthe beginning of a maybe-series. i'll probably get too bored to continue it, but for now we'll see. title and lyrics taken from the carbon leaf song of the same name.
changeless
otherwise, with no heart to recall
a memory's just a memory, after all
There should be limits, Rui thinks, to how much shit the universe is allowed to throw at a person. He watches Makino try to smile, still, even after all she's been through, and feels his hands clench into fists. There should be a way for him to make the world just leave her alone, even if it's just for a day.
He's not the one she needs to take care of her, though. He knows that. And if Tsukasa would just stop being an idiot and remember that he needs to make her smile, it would be okay. He loves Makino, but he loves Tsukasa too, and so long as they're happy he doesn't need anything else.
They're not happy now. Tsukasa's confused and helpless, which always did make him into even more of an insensitive jerk, and Makino is failing pathetically at concealing how miserable she is.
And then there's that girl from the hospital. She thinks she's smooth, making friends with Makino to get to Tsukasa. Well, Rui's been protecting Tsukasa from manipulative, gold-digging bitches since they were toddlers. Makino is the only girl he's ever met that was good enough for Tsukasa (although that also means she's the only girl who isn't Shizuka who's good enough for Rui), and if Umi-chan thinks she's going to get her fingers on Tsukasa, well, she's got another think coming.
"Don't worry, Makino," he says gently, touching her shoulder. "It'll be okay."
She smiles weakly at him, and his resolve strengthens. He's going to make it okay, for her and Tsukasa, even if he has to hit him over the head with one of his highly-polished Armani shoes until he finally remembers. He loves Makino, and he loves Tsukasa, and he's going to make sure they're happy.
It's the most and the least he can do.
...what are the odds
that I have missed your smile?

Date: 2012-10-04 02:06 am (UTC)my friend made me watch the first episode of the drama with her, and I loved it so much. although I totally did not like Tsukasa xD and then I watched the Korean version and fell in love with the actor of Korean-Tsukasa...
Makino is the only girl he's ever met that was good enough for Tsukasa (although that also means she's the only girl who isn't Shizuka who's good enough for Rui) :'( the whole thing with Shizuka and Makino was so sad. poor Rui. he deserves better.
