fic: thursday never looking back (bleach)
May. 7th, 2007 01:36 pmokay, so I gave this AU to
sublimeparadigm. that doesn't mean I can't still play with it... right? right, Jackie? ~bats lashes endearingly~
anyway, the yakuza-AU Kira is my favorite Bleach-baby right now. I can't really explain where he came from, though. stork snuck in while I was distracted or something.
Thursday Never Looking Back
Kira runs away on a Thursday. There's no particular significance to the date; it's about 3 years, maybe, since he came into the household of Aizen-sama as Ichimaru-sama's pet, but not exactly. Ichimaru-sama doesn't fuck him any harder or gentler that morning than usual; the scar over his left eye is no longer red and angry-looking, but not yet faded. But when Ichimaru-sama leaves him that morning, slightly bruised but not to signify, Kira decides that today he is going to run away.
He gets up and gets dressed in an outfit that is presentable but not flashy, and combs his hair so it covers his scarred eye - remembers the knife slicing through his eyebrow and into his cheek, holding perfectly still in terror, praying silently that Ichimaru-sama would let him keep the eye - before he calls for his guard for the day, and announces that he is going shopping.
There's no reason why he can't; he isn't Hinamori, Aizen-sama's pampered pet, who in the three years Kira has lived at the main house has never been permitted to go outside. She sits in her room most of the time and arranges flowers and sings to herself, a housecat who does not remember being declawed. And there's no reason why he shouldn't, because he isn't Ulquiorra, Aizen-sama's other favorite, who speaks very quietly and never smiles and has the deadest eyes Kira has ever seen. Kira is not afraid of all that much - Aizen-sama, Ichimaru-sama, losing his eye or another body part, which are all reasonable fears - but every time he looks into Ulquiorra's eyes he is terrified that someday he will be like Ulquiorra, too.
His guard for the day is Grimmjow, for which Kira is grateful. If it were Ulquiorra he would be too frightened to go through with his plan. Grimmjow is a brute, but Ichimaru-sama will kill him with a smile if he lays a hand on Kira, and they both know it; and anyway, Kira has dealt with much more frightening people than Grimmjow Jaggerjack in his time.
It's almost too easy, breaking out of the invisible chains that have held him to Ichimaru-sama and Ichimaru-sama's home for over three years. He walks into a dressing room, leaving Grimmjow outside scowling at racks of brightly colored women's tracksuits, and tries on a shirt he picked knowing it would be too big. He takes it back outside to Grimmjow and tells him to get it for him in small, please. Grimmjow frowns harder, but his reluctant fear of Ichimaru-sama outweighs his irritation, and he goes off to the men's section, carrying the medium and looking annoyed. Kira puts his kimono back on and leaves a pile of clothes in his size and favorite styles in the dressing room, and walks out the front door of the store.
The first thing he does is head for the seedier part of town, where a gun merchant who does not recognize him, though before Ichimaru-sama and the scar over his eye he was a regular customer, sells him a sleek pistol and a thigh-holster. Kira pays for them with Ichimaru-sama's credit card, and throws the shiny piece of plastic in the trash as soon as he leaves the shop. He feels more like himself with a gun strapped to his leg beneath his kimono than he has in three years in Ichimaru-sama's bed.
The second thing he does is ask another shop-keeper - he knows Ichimaru-sama will find the one who sold him the gun, but all that man knows about him is his favorite brand of gun and the circumference of his thigh - where he can find Matsumoto Rangiku. He gets directions to a host club a few blocks down and a few more over. It's called Twelve.
Kira takes a deep breath, rests his hand on his gun for reassurance, and walks back into his life.
title from Friday I'm In Love. the version I have is by the Cure, but it may or may not be a cover. ~shrug~
PS: you know how I said that I had yet to find a fandom angry enough to warrant a Dresden Dolls soundtrack? I lied. Half Jack is so completely Niki/Jessica from Heroes. and I could sort of see Good Day as Nathan/Peter after the election, when they part ways. Backstabber is still too angry for any fandom, though.
PPS: I still love Jensen Ackles. just throwing it out there.
