it's odd how I spent so much of my childhood and adolescence scorning this "pop culture" nonsense, and now I am completely obsessed with fandoms based on TV. Currently watching: Supernatural, Bones, House, Heroes. Catching up on: Stargate Atlantis, Eureka, and maybe Dr. Who. Today I feel like writing my fandoms a love letter, so here goes.

Supernatural... I don't know, really. I loved this show so much last year that I kind of fear it can't live up to that sort of intensity on a week-to-week basis. I only hopped on the bandwagon as it was barreling downhill to the season two finale, so weighing each episode as a single weekly experience is new to me. I'm withholding judgment on the new girl - I'm not going to hate on her just because she's hot, blond and apparently kickass - but I don't see any way for her to hook up with one of the boys without ruining the closeness of their relationship. Whether you're a wincest 'shipper or not, the show is pretty much driven by their love for each other, platonic, erotic or otherwise. I don't want the sex in the show to suddenly be central rather than peripheral. But we'll see.

oh, Bones. words can't really describe my glee with this season so far. I really do think that Bones and Booth are going to get together, and that makes me happy. Theirs is one of the few really believable male-female friendships on television right now, and I could probably deal with their staying just friends - but I also think that friends make really good lovers, and two really smoking hot people who clearly love and are attracted to each other shouldn't be shy about falling into bed. and Angela and Hodgins! the geek love continues strong.

House and Wilson remain my favorite TV "they-are-so-married" couple. Wilson is learning to be evil! House needs to watch out. holding the guitar for ransom! ~squishes Wilson~ it's really good to see Wilson getting his own back to some degree - a lot of fandom waters these two down and makes them nice to each other, but House doesn't work like that (and neither does Wilson, apparently, since he's gone through three wives but still only has one best friend). they're mean to each other - but they still care. one need look no further than House and Stacy to see that when House really loves someone, he treats them like shit. I would, however, kill to see House protecting Wilson from an outside threat, in his own assholish way. Also, I like the new ducklings! Especially 26. He's cool. Cameron's hair really does make her look like a hooker, though.

Heroes: I have many pithy reactions, and few relevant ones. Why is there a furry rodent chewing on Nathan's face, and exactly what breed is it, anyway? Is Peter shirtless purely as fanservice, or is there some sort of actual plot device hidden within the heaving pectoral muscles? Are the Bloody Mary twins sleeping together, to continue the Heroes trend of sublimated incest as begun so admirably by the Petrellis? Does "alien" kid remind anyone else a little bit of Adam Brody? When exactly over hiatus did Matt and Mohinder decide to live out the American dream by getting married and adopting a little girl? (Corollary question: is this secretly a scenario enacted solely to get Mohinder his green card, which will later in true Harlequin forced-marriage fashion erupt into a revolting display of One Twu Wuv?) Where is Niki - I want to find out if DL actually died! Hiro and Kensei - they've only known each other a day and Hiro is already a naggy wife? And Claire, you idiot, what would you have done if your toe hadn't grown back?!?!

SGA, SGA, you are such a weird and wonderful fandom. Where else can you find a plot device so ridiculous and yet so deep-seated as "aliens made them do it," which then can be parodied as, "aliens made someone else do it," "they made the aliens do it," "aliens made them do something completely innocuous, what a shock," "aliens didn't make them do it," "aliens made them not do it," and many more? honestly I'm kind of wondering why SGA canon isn't this awesome. Eureka I have only barely delved into, and while I can't see myself reading or writing fanfic for the show itself, the crossover potential is staggering. I've already read a fantastic SGA crossover, and I have a Prince of Tennis one percolating in the back of my head. Because honestly, a town of supergeniuses would be perfect for Inui. ~evil laughter~

am I missing out on something fabulous this season? let me know! (unless it's Battlestar Galactica. I tried; I gave up. too damn angsty. SciFi TV should be at least half and half humor and WOE IS US.)
