meretriculaI am kind of ridiculously in love with Yuletide. there's all these fandoms that are so tiny I've never seen fic for them before, and for christmas somebody asked for them! it's so cool. I'm working my way through, so have a handful or recs:
Curriculum Vitae, Bones, Angela gen
you guys know that I pretty much don't do gen, right? so this must be pretty damn fabulous. the different jobs Angela has held that led her to the Jeffersonian.
Five Lessons on the Pandion Order, David Eddings' Elenium/Tamuli series, Khalad/Berit
can I just sit here and quietly squee over the fact that there is fic for this series? I was in love with it back in... I want to say seventh grade? back before I knew the joys of fanfiction. and now there is fic, and it is slash, and it has Berit finally maybe possibly having a successful romantic encounter! ~GLEE~
(And My Heart's) Keeping Time, Hairspray (the movie), Corny/Maybelle
dreaded het warning! but god, this pairing is SO DAMN CUTE. even in the movie, it's subtle, but it's there, and I wanted to hug them so hard for being older and wiser than the kids who got the spotlight, and still getting up to dance.
Fixed, Hands Off!, Tatsuki/Kotarou
ok, this is not exactly the Hands Off! fic I want. but the simple fact that it exists and they FINALLY GODDAMN KISS is enough to make up for that. (cousin-kissing, if that squicks you.)
George Knightley (Instead of Emma), Jane Austen's Emma, Mr. Knightley/Emma
um. it's fanfic of Emma! how could it go wrong?
All True-Hearted Souls, Naomi Novik's Temeraire series, Laurence/Granby
READ IT. NOW. first of all, Temeraire fanfic! there is not enough of it. especially not of this caliber - the phrasing is right, the language, the mannerisms, and oh, Granby. ~cuddles idiot Brit~ also, Temeraire slash is basically an endangered species what with it being a canon of overwhelmingly asexual romance (can I call it romance? because obviously the relationship between Laurence and Temeraire is the center of all the books, and I get that stupid oh god their love is so damn beautiful feeling from it all the time, but, you know, interspecies and all that) with occasional awesome het thrown in. I love Jane, I really do. but I want slash! and now I have it, and it is awesome, and I want more.
Three Times Rusty Left Linus Speechless, and One Time Linus Turned the Tables, Ocean's Eleven, Rusty/Linus
yes, I know, Danny/Rusty OTP. but, Linus! ~giggles~ there was also a lot of Danny/Rusty, but I haven't read it yet. soon!
Until It's Done, Patricia C. Wrede's Dealing With Dragons quartet, Daystar/Shiara
this is the ending I wanted for Talking to Dragons. Daystar finally (maybe) learns to have an idea that wasn't his mother's, loses the girl, and then wins her back, mostly on his own. LOVE.
Realizations, Patricia C. Wrede's Mairelon series
oh, Mairelon. he's such an adorable moron. how Mairelon fell in love with Kim, and eventually noticed it.
There Will Be No Survivors (Except for the Survivors Behind the Curtain, But Pay No Attention to Them), The Princess Bride, gen
Inigo tries to be an honorable pirate. La Isla de Mucha Mucha Muerte. summer homes! just go read it. it's awesome.
Twice Upon a Time, Pushing Daisies, Ned/Chuck but it isn't really the point
the narrator ships Ned/Chuck. and he really wants some pie. this is pretty much the only way I can think of a really happy ending for Pushing Daisies, and I want one so badly.
Purls Before Pie, Pushing Daisies, gen
there are a zillion Emerson-knitting stories on Yuletide this year, but this one was the best. it has that loopy tone of the show down pat, and I could hear the characters saying these lines. also, really really funny.
a tale of first meetings, Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown
oh, god. this is a teeny-tiny snippet of baby!Aerin and toddler!Tor, and they're already so adorably in love. ~is ded of cute~
Brought to Light, Robin McKinley's Sunshine
I can't even describe how much I want there to be fanfic of this book, because that end? was not an end. if you're not going to finish, at least have the kindness to keep going! inevitably, Sunshine's two lives have to intersect at some point. that point is this fic.
Hiding Out for the Holidays, Heroes RPS, Pasdar/Ventimiglia
I admit, I'm mostly in it for Zach Quinto's cameo. and Milo's bitching about how Quinto steals his fangirls. Hayden is chasing Milo with a sprig of misteltoe; Adrian's hiding Milo with ulterior motives in mind.
The Strange and Not Entirely Ineffective Courting of Jon Stewart by Stephen T. Colbert, punditslash, Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert
this is so not even real slash. I love it anyway. how Jon deals with the insanity that is Stephen Colbert.
Molten Metal and Miniature Trees, Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series, gen
Briar helps Daja get over Riku, in a completely platonic way. (trust me, if it were non-platonic the die-hard Briar/Tris shipper in me would not be at all pleased.) WHY is there not more fanfic of this series?
