behold, I live! and I return to bring you all the joys of hot hot fanfiction. or at least grammatically-correct fanfiction; nothing turns me off worse than a misplaced semicolon.

I have another fandom. ~shame~ it is not my fault! imbrilim said, you must watch this show, it is delicious crack! and you must watch this other show, it is the delicious crack's insane gay AU fanfic cousin! and I said, goddammit imbrilim you KNOW I have to do schoolwork! I will resist your wily ways!

and then daughterofelros mailed me a DVD of the insane gay AU fanfic cousin, and imbrilim sent me a link to episodes of the delicious crack on the ghetto asian youtube, and I said, ...okay fine you win.

the upshot of that, if you're currently shaking your head in confusion, is that I'm now watching Doctor Who and Torchwood. they really are awesome, if you like cheesy scifi. which I do. come on, I was raised on Star Trek. this is like mother's milk for me. I mainly ship Jack/Ianto, but with extreme reluctance, because I love Ianto. no, I mean, REALLY love him, adore him with the burning passion of a thousand fiery suns, and I think Jack is a sleazy slimy asshole. charming, yes! good-looking, well, I'm not hot in the panties for him, but I know other people are! but still. ASSHOLE. I want to take Ianto home with me and hug him for hours and make him speak in that adorable Welsh accent until I burst into flames of ardor. and maybe just possibly kick Jack in the nuts on the way out.

but Jack/Ianto is the main ship of TW, and I do like it when it's done well (Ianto is competent, not a damsel in distress - seriously, people, I hate it when Jack has to rescue him). I also adore Tosh and Martha Jones, and any gen that has either of them bonding with Ianto = awesome. (Tosh/Ianto porn also = awesome.) Ten/Ianto or Ten/Jack/Ianto kind of works for me, too. Nine/Rose/Jack definitely, though. (I have not seen the finale of the first season of Doctor Who PLEASE TO NOT BE SPOILING ME.)


first stop, lucyjanesparlor. completely unobjectionable Jack/Ianto. some angst, some fluff, all very cute! she's the one who got me hooked.

next, paperclipbitch. a little bit of everything! if you like Owen or Suzie, she's the best author I've come across so far for you. she makes everyone in Torchwood 3 human - not a villain, not a saint. everybody fucks up; it doesn't make them evil (necessarily). start with That Old Black Magic, though. I don't even have words for how amazing it is. all of Ianto's relationships, in the context of coffee. index is here, btw.

check out shaggydogstail - there isn't a lot, but it's good. I quite like Reach Out And Touch - it's fairly standard Jack/Ianto fare, but nicely done. fic index is here

ETA: I totally forgot basingstoke because she isn't in my bookmarks! but I love her as well. fic index is here; read There Are Millions of Suns Left first. Tosh/Ianto FTW! ETA 2: how did I forget Sonic Bananas? the only solution must be that I am losing my mind. I love love love this fic. Ten has lost his chucks and Ianto is a passive-aggressive shopper.

and last on my list so far is tanarian. I thoroughly blame her for how long it took me to do anything in the past week. she has written a ton, most of it stellar, some of it very long, and some just hilarious. I can't recommend anything in particular because I just went on a rampage and read the entire list in alphabetical order - I'll go back and piece together my favorites eventually, but for now I am just enjoying the buzz! fic index is here

and then, on your way out, take a look at this. it's not quite a fic; it's more like mixed-media genius. it will make you smile. hell, it made me giggle.

ETA again: sam_storyteller is kind of a supergenius and everyone should read all of his or her fic (oh, for the days of non-gender-neutral names...) because it is brilliant. in particular everyone should read Second City Torchwood and its sequel, Edgar van Scyoc Presents: Doctor Who, which are not so much fiction as mixed-media works of art based on the premise: what would happen if Torchwood (and Doctor Who) were American shows? sam_storyteller proceeds to create an entire world out of this, with scripts, DVD extras, behind-the-scenes peeks at the life of cast and crew, and an entire fandom based on her fictional show, complete with smut, badfic, meta and fanwank. this series deserves to win the entire internet. do YOU have a favorite TW author that I, being totally new to fandom, do not? tell me! if Ianto's in there somewhere, I'll be happy.

and, to wrap this up - if I did a sort of generalized anime-fic rec post, would anyone be interested? there are a few authors out there that I read in fandoms (HnG, Naruto, FMA, stuff like that) I wouldn't otherwise look at, and I thought it might be nice to sort of put them all together in one big happy post. but I won't if it'll just be spamming your flists. opinions?

poisontaster actually writes a decent amount of Jack/Ianto stuff. WHICH IS AWESOME. And it's only a matter of time before the SPN fandom jumps ship from bandom to DW/TW, especially since uh TORCHWOOD COPIES ALL OF SUPERNATURAL'S IDEAS XD;

I have issues with Tosh S2. She gets like...well she's still competent, but she does the whole WOE IS ME ANGST R US thing that kind of annoys me to no end (I liked having the competent little Asian girl who does maths incredibly well and hooks up with aliens but still does her job at the end of the day!). Dr. Owen Harper however, can do no wrong. Yes, when I become a doctor I'm going to stick lapel pins all over my lab coat JUST LIKE HIM.

Jack. Well. I like Jack because I like John Barrowman. Maybe if I watched Torchwood before I saw all the random ass interviews with John saying weird shit and bribing David Tennant with cake I may not like Jack as much. But then again I LOVE asshole types, so Eh. XD; (I also watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang first, in which Captain John Hart made Jack pale in comparison)
