omg yuletide!

signups are open! this is me, pondering what to ask for and what to offer. feel free to remind me that there is no way in hell I'd be able to write a particular fandom and I am talking crazy.
I could write
Caroline Stevermer and Patricia C Wrede - Sorcery and Cecelia series (maybe? I've *read* them all, but the only one I really liked was the first, and then... I loved those characters so much, but I'm not sure I could write them. I would have to get into a Regency mood.)
Diana Wynne Jones - Castle series aka Howl series (I'm thinking. very seriously. because the latest book kicked SO MUCH FREAKING ASS and I loved the heroine to BITS. but my grasp on Howl and Sophie is based pretty strongly on the Miyazaki movie, not the book. but... bookworm girl! who didn't really care about anything except being given some GODDAMN PEACE AND QUIET SO SHE COULD READ! that was me when I was twelve.)
FAKE (anime or manga) (I think I could do this. I haven't read the books in a while, but the characterization wasn't too complicated.)
Fairy Tales (trad)(um. which ones? no, seriously, that is a ridiculous name for a fandom.)
Georgette Heyer - Cotillion (this would be SO HARD. I would need to read so much Regency to be able to get the speech patterns. but... I want it.)
Gerald Morris - Squires Tales series (maybe. one of the early books, where it was Gawain and Terence running around kicking ass. the later books went to Crazy Town.)
Gilbert and Sullivan (AHAHAHAHAHA OH MAN. SO WRONG. SO RIGHT.)
Gokusen (tv) (could be fun! possibly just first season, though; I love the dorky season two boys but I don't even really know their names, let alone their characterization.)
Hana Yori Dango aka Boys Over Flowers (tv) (season one plzkthnkx. also possibly not such a great idea. I guess I could request just to write Akira/Sojiroh/Yuki)
Hands Off! (manga) (such a bad idea. and yet.)
Homer - The Iliad and the Odyssey (...and now I want to know if anyone requested the Aeneid.)
Love Mode (manga) (...as much as it pains me to say it, I don't think I could write anyone but Naoya and Aoe. even Kiichi and Haruomi have too much goddamn backstory.)
Mary Renault - Mask of Apollo (I am so tempted. I loved this book. but it would require things like actual knowledge of history and Greek drama.)
Mythology - Greek and Roman (it is MY THING)
Patricia C Wrede - Enchanted Forest Chronicles (this would rock SO HARD)
Patricia C Wrede - Mairelon the Magician series (usual hesitation over speech patterns and Britishness. but I love Kim.)
Pushing Daisies (I think I could do this. I really do.)
Shakespeare - A Midsummer Nights Dream
Shakespeare - Much Ado About Nothing
Shakespeare - Twelfth Night (nobody has requested these plays! that makes me very sad.)
Tamora Pierce - Circle of Magic series (but I refuse to write any of the new characters from the second series, being as how they sucked like hoovers)
Tamora Pierce - Tortall series (mostly the Kel books, though; I don't like the Ali or Terrier books and I'm not as into Daine or Alanna)
still thinking about what I want.
I could ask for
Naomi Novik - Temeraire series
Granby/Tharkay/Laurence. slash. any two or all three, I am so not picky. smut, romance, twu wuv, snarkery, Temeraire's bewildered view of sexual goings-on (oh man, just the thought of Temeraire getting an eyeful of mansex makes me giggle, he could get all concerned and worried that someone was mistreating his Laurence! and then he would read some Plato and decide to be encouraging), it is all good so long as please please please there is a happy ending. (oh, and I feel like this should go without saying, but no Jane-bashing please! Jane is made of awesome.)
Tamora Pierce - Circle of Magic series
Tris/Briar or Sandry/Daja. shippy preferred, UST okay! Tris is my favorite, so anything about her is lovely as well - being at Lightsbridge, maybe, or what she gets up to after graduation, or what it's like being a super-mage undercover!
Tamora Pierce - Tortall series
Kel being amazing, in that stoic way she has! gen, het, if you can make femmeslash work props to you! I do like the notion of Kel/Dom or Kel/Owen, but pretty much anything about Kel would make me happy.
Robin McKinley - The Outlaws of Sherwood
Cecily and Little John, either the night before Richard sentences them or any time afterwards. Will's view of his baby sister's beau. Robin and John commiserating over their impossible and danger-seeking lady-loves. Or similar. I love Cecily so much.
Robin McKinley - Sunshine
Sunshine and Con, after the final showdown. Any other character's impressions of Sunshine and Con are also welcome - Mel, Yolande, Aimil, SOF, even Charlie!
Georgette Heyer - Cotillion
Freddy Standen, being awesome. Facing down the horrific evils of women's fashion! Rescuing his fiancee from her lower-middle-class notions of economy! Doing valiant battle against the boredom of London's cultural attractions! I also really like Freddy's father, and his realization that while Freddy is kind of a nitwit, he isn't completely useless. ~gives Freddy an enormous hug~ Oh! And Freddy getting the better of Jack in a social situation, perhaps by having the better-tied cravat = WIN.
I could keep going forever if I let myself. I CANNOT DECIDE. I mean, the logical thing would be to pick the fandoms that I can't write for (Robin McKinley, Georgette Heyer, Naomi Novik, other authors whose prose is so brilliant that I just don't dare imitate it), but... now I sort of want it all. I will keep thinking.
oh, and while I'm posting... look, I hate it when people canvas in their journals. I'm not super psyched about Obama. but for god's sake, go vote tomorrow. I'm voting. and if you live in California, NO ON PROPOSITION 8. ugh, it pisses me off.
