1. My username is ______ because ______.
meretricula, because "meretrix" was taken. (no, really!) I got this journal back when I was still new enough to Latin to be fascinated by its variety of words for "whore", of which meretrix certainly ranks as one of the most interesting - it's derived from mereo, which means to earn. so a meretrix is literally a woman who earns money. cool, right? (okay, fine, only to me.) I wanted a name that reflected my love of Latin and also had some sort of sexual connotation, since this did start out as exclusively a slash journal. my first choice was meretrix, but someone else had that already, and meretricula is just the diminutive of meretrix, so it was close enough! now I'm actually pretty attached to the way meretricula sounds.
2. My name is _____ because ______.
diu me te amo, which is Latin for "me love you long time" (or close enough; it's hard to render bad grammar into another language). I think I changed my name last semester, when this journal, or at least the locked, personal bits, started getting very Latin-heavy again. even though non-friended people don't see it, I thought I should give some sort of warning as to the level of geekery that shows up in my journal!
3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
illo tempore mihi visum est, which is one of my favorite Latin phrases. the subtitle (it seemed like a good idea at the time...) is a fairly colloquial translation.
4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
tau sigma eta, because... this is what it actually looks like in Greek: ΤΣΗ. it started out as a joke back when "teh" was the net-speak word of the moment, but since then I've grown very fond of the way it looks spelled out in English. I hardly ever think of it as the letters themselves.
5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
actually, I was about to do this meme and I realized I was tired of my default userpic, so I paused long enough to make a new one.
was my default for a long, long time, and I still really love it as an image, but I'm not so much into Prince of Tennis anymore. then I had a Supernatural default icon for quite a while, but I'm honestly not even so much into Supernatural anymore (though my love for Dean Winchester and Jensen Ackles is an immortal flame that will never die). I wanted an icon for the Classics, since I talk about my major all the time, but my default sort of needs to have something to do with slash (since I do post about that all the time, even when I'm posting about school). the image is from Pandect (a webcomic by Dina Situ), and I love it even divorced from its context. originally I was going to put some Catullus on the icon, but even two lines of poetry takes up a lot of room, and I'm not a very good icon maker, so I have to keep things simple! ερως is the Greek word for sexual love or desire (Anglicized as Eros, better known as Cupid, the god of love). it seemed fitting and it looks pretty.

Date: 2008-04-07 03:31 am (UTC)I think I've figured out what bugs me about the Who'niverse, though! it's a great place to play for humor and craziness and OMFG YOU DID NOT JUST USE THAT SCIFI CLICHE, but serious acting? um, not so much. (though that might mostly be Torchwood. Christopher Eccleston was pretty impressive as a serious actor, and so far Tennant's good too.) I adore TW snark, but End of Days? WHY CAN YOU PEOPLE NOT ACT. hi, Gwen, your boyfriend just died and you are having a temper tantrum? please to be shutting up now. Jack's voice just bothers me - he ALWAYS SOUNDS SO GODDAMN SMUG. even Ianto! the whole dramatic thing in the ep where Tosh can read minds and she hears him wallowing in his angst - what the hell was that? why is everyone so melodramatic? what happened to SUCKING UP YOUR MANLY PAIN. goddammit.

Date: 2008-04-07 05:43 am (UTC)it is a rather awkward place in the narrative to be writing SPN fic. everyone wrote their "Sam gets Dean out of the deal" fics over break, and now we're in holding pattern until the show actually goes somewhere. (also I feel like RPS is going to take a dive now that Jared is engaged. or else become weepy and angsty and unrequited. ugh.)
