essays handed in. hopefully I won't fail. more importantly: I should be able to do more fandom-type things again now. like put together an Alcantara brothers primer.

in the meantime: come write prompts! it's fun, you know you want to... :D

but for now, I am going to go to sleep.

leaving for Paris for the weekend, probably won't have internet at all until I get back on Sunday. as per usual, if something happens and you think I'd like to know about it, link in the comments! you all were great when I went to Poland. :)

VAMOS RAFA
AJDE SRBIJA
PLEASE STOP SUCKING LIVERPOOL (ALSO FIRE ROY HODGSON)
GET WELL SOON BB SILVA, WE NEED YOU
GOOOOOOO VILLARREAL
VISCA EL BARÇA, VISCA CATALUNYA

I think that covers everything!
meretricula: Rrrrrrafa Nadal! (whatever)
that I'm going to be away for a few days, probably with very little internet access. I will miss you all! if anything exciting happens (I think you all know my tastes well enough to be able to say "oh gosh [livejournal.com profile] meretricula would totally love this" when relevant) just leave a comment and tell me where to find it so I can squee with you when I get back! ♥

gone for a week, may or may not have internet (if I do, it'll be dial-up), will try to work on fic about Rafa having a thing for Novak's glasses but no promises, and if I don't reply to emails in a timely manner, sorry!

oh, also? RAFA WON THE US OPEN. IT WAS AWESOME. (and Barça spanked the Greek club whose name I can't pronounce. keep up the excellent work, boys! these are the kinds of results we like to see.)
meretricula: (theirloveissomyopic)
I just... don't have much to say. idk, I keep meaning to write things and call people and do stuff, and instead I lie around in bed rereading [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka's epic football fics and occasionally watching tennis or football. (Spain beat Poland 6-0 yesterday! it was awesome. at least, the parts I managed to watch without dying of boredom. I like it when they score, but jeez, I have no idea how anyone can watch 90 straight minutes of some guys kicking a ball around.) Rafa won the French Open! that was nice. I couldn't bring myself to watch any of it until match point because I was so scared, but it was a pretty non-heart-attack-inducing match, so well-done there Rafa. Wimbledon and World Cup start really soon, so I need to decide if I'm going to be watching stuff at home in my pajamas, or if I want to venture into the outside world and find some tolerant friends and a sports bar.

anyway, that's all that's been going on with me. how are you?
meretricula: (teary-eyed uke)
goddamn it, I am actually in tears over the end of this stupid epic Renaissance-era AU. I hate it when reality creeps too far into my fantasy world. (also, two papers to write in less than two days and I am covered with mosquito bites. and yet the part where people die in a fanfic is the reason I'm crying. oh, self.)
meretricula: (fandom killed the gpa star)
Leave me a comment saying "the game's afoot!" and I will respond by asking you five questions that satisfy my curiosity. Update your journal with the answers to the questions, including this in the post.

Andy Murray, you useless twat. go buy that girl some diamonds.

...may be slightly drunk. not sure. it was only one margarita. anyway, time for bed.
meretricula: (fandom killed the gpa star)
later today I will be packing up my things and heading back to the dorms, so I can camp out in the library and write my thesis. woe.

though on the bright side, tennis has returned just in time to keep me company in my time of trial and tribulation. hopefully Rafa will continue winning and keep me happy. at the moment, the ladies are picking up the slack until he plays a real match: yay Flavs! yay Kim! FUCK YEAH KIMIKO, winning matches at age 39 over girls half her age. we should all aspire to be as badass as she is.

on a slightly more pan-fandom note, does anyone really understand the comment etiquette over on AO3? I'm normally religious about replying to comments on my LJ, but it makes me very uncomfortable to reply on AO3, where comment counts (which include replies) are part of the information provided in the fic summary. idk, maybe I'm being weird about this, but I really don't like replies being so visible on an archive; it's not like it's my journal where I can have a discussion 50 comments long if I want to. but then I'm not sure if I'm being deathly rude by not replying to my Yuletide comments.

grah. backing up my fic on AO3 was not supposed to complicate anything.
meretricula: (theirloveissomyopic)
so, I've totally been seduced by how easy it is to post pictures on tumblr. I'm giving it a shot - not sure how long that's going to last; I mean, I made it what, two months with dreamwidth? but anyway, I'm at meretricula.tumblr.com. let me know if you have a tumblr so I can follow you!

(the day I get a twitter we can all rest assured the sky is actually falling.)
meretricula: Rrrrrrafa Nadal! (whatever)
I don't even know what I'm doing with my thesis right now. I kind of think I need a plan of attack, but since my plan of what I want to write changes based on what I read each week, I... don't know what I'm going to be reading from week to week. and thus I am a mess. hopefully I will manage to magic myself out of this sometime soon, but until then... who knows! (I have totally wasted my entire day off. I have no one to blame but myself.)

in other news, Rafa dug himself into a hole and then just barely managed to dig himself out - I watched the scores until he lost the first set and went down a break, went to take a shower so he could lose without me, came back and he'd gotten the break back, went to eat breakfast, came back and he was down several match points, watched him break back and went to do some thesis reading, came back and he'd won the tiebreak but was down a break again, at which point I flung my hands in the air and cussed him out a little. and then magically he managed to break Nico when he served for the set (for the second time), hold serve, break and serve it out. FIVE MATCH POINTS. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, RAFA. I KNOW YOU'RE COMPETING WITH NOLE BUT THAT IS NOT A COMPETITION YOU WANT TO BE WINNING. (feel free to proceed to win the tournament like Nole did, though. that's an acceptable action to emulate.)

and then Federer managed to lose to Julien Bennetteau in a match I was sort of vaguely keeping an eye on, thinking, oh, he managed to hold serve, that's cute! oh, he managed to get it to a tiebreak, that's cute! oh, he won the tiebreak, that's cute! aww, he's up a break in the third on Fed, that's adorable! ...and then I went to dinner and apparently Fed never broke back. and then I laughed.

oh, and Marat Safin retired. the ladies mourn, but their panties are at last freed from the oppressive threat of spontaneous combustion. exciting happenings in Paris!
meretricula: (Default)
no, really, it's been awesome! I did well on a quiz I nearly slept through and had free time and took a teensy nap and went out to dinner with several lovely ladies. now I'm feeling a bit contemplative, and I kind of want to do a rec list. I'm not quite sure what to rec, though. it's down to Firefly vids or tennis slash fic. does anyone have a preference?

I have drifted so far away from Firefly fandom that I can't even remember a single author I like, which is weird because I know I read some very nice Mal/Simon fics back in the day. if you know any nice Mal/Simon fics please leave me a link! I'm feeling nostalgic.

well, at the moment this is just me and [profile] szhou, but anyone who wants to join in the great BLS manga sharing is free to do so.

Shonen:
PoT 1-12 omg the overdosage!
Naruto 4 (no, i don't know why 4 and not any other number. it just is)

Shojo:
Miyuki-chan in Wonderland (this might be hentai in some views...)

Shonen Ai:
FAKE 1-7 (book 7 might be a bit more yaoi though)
Until the Full Moon 1
Only the Ring Finger Knows
Hands Off! 1-5 (this manga is Eerie Queerie only angstier and more cutely drawn. also with SLIGHTLY more credible plotlines. I have extreme love for Tatsuki and Yuuto.)
Petshop of Horrors 1, 4, 5, 8 (this is kinda drama/horror, but i like to think of it as shonen ai. the ending is slashy, if depressing)
Tokyo Babylon 7
Earthian 1 & 2 (like FAKE, only without the pervy seme, and with wings. I'm totally not seeing any boy-on-boy action anywhere in the near future, which makes me sad.)

Yaoi:
Love Mode 1 & 2 (need I say more?)
Skyscrapers of Oz (skeezy. very skeezy)
Desire (pretty, but also skeezy)
Our Everlasting (omg cutest thing ever! translation of Keijijyou na Bokura, which was apparently not English-friendly)
Yellow 1 & 2 (skeezy, but also very sweet and full of angsty unrequited love. hurrah for slutty semes and ukes who kick their asses!)
Jazz (hilariously stereotypical yaoi. I don't think even an incorrigible uke would fall in love with somebody because he raped him...)
Sweet Revolution (bizarre, yet pretty. by the same mangaka as Desire. I love her style)
meretricula: (Default)
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOOD WILL TO ALL!!!

(don't mind me, I just got back from Jackie's and I'm kinda punchy. Mmmm... Morgan was there... Morgan has a fuzzy head.... Yeah, see, punchy.)

all right, folks. due to excessive and completely unnecessary spillover of lj drama into real life, [profile] the_card_floozy is getting locked. I'm not messing with the posts that are there already, but if and when i ever update again, it'll be friends-only. comment here or on [profile] the_card_floozy to be friended, but trust me, my real life ain't that interesting.

I'm not locking this journal. freedom of speech and the right to say whatever the hell i want, even if it offends the crap out of the fundamentalists and various classmates. i'm going to renew my efforts to keep my real life out of this one, and i may not be posting again for a while, since i don't want nosy administrators reading my writing. if you comment for whatever reason, try to remember that on this lj, I'm not "Veronica" or "Vee." I'm Belladonna, or Bella for short. It'll make it easier for me to keep my various identities straight, not to mention remind me to keep my rl persona from affecting my online personality.

i hate doing this. i am the living embodiment of why i never wanted a livejournal in the first place. but i am not friendslocking my fic journal, and i am not deleting it. the fuckers are not going to win.

...

ahahahahaha, that was way too much drama. okay, i feel better now. love you, guys. ~hugs and snuggles to all~

~snuggles~ I will never deserve a friend as nice as you. The necklace is beautiful (this is embarrassing, but I started planning outfits to wear with it... >_>) and I thoroughly enjoyed your letter. Of course, my mom is a bit suspicious as to why I'm getting mail from England, but whatever.

You mentioned "Sod's Law" - is that the Brit version of Murphy's Law? I learn more about foreign cultures every day... =P

And the rest of the letter melted me into a puddle of wibbling goo, of course. (Was that on purpose?) You're an amazing friend and a fantastic person, Sylvie, and I'm so glad I met you (metaphorically speaking). My mother asked me how I know you, and it took me a minute to remember - elfslash, of course! I think I still have the email you wrote me to review that first Erestor fic. And what an epic stack of emails that spawned! Followed, naturally, by the el-jay craze. One of these days I'll go back and read over all of our monstrous conversations, some of which have, I believe, spanned many months.

Before I hand the keyboard over to a few other correspondents, one last thing, as I chime in on the lateness issue: where the hell are you? I worry when it gets to be several weeks between replies. Could I have just one teensey peep out of you, so i know you're still alive? (okay, nagging's done.)

Heaps and heaps of love,
-Veronica

(Here we go...)
Dear Dee,
If you think that I'd abandon my job and my family to go running off to Canada with a good-for-nothing like you, you're sorely mistaken. (Massachussetts, on the other hand...) The only mounting you'll be doing, bucko, is on my wall like a rack of antlers. Capisce? And I look terrible in red. It washes out my complexion.
With some marginal amount of misguided affection,
-Ryo

My dear Celebrimbor,
YOU CHEATING SCUM. Did you think I wouldn't find out what you were up to with Aredhel? How COULD you??!! You broke my heart, you bastard! I hope she dumped you on your ass, you jerk, and if you think you can come crawling back to me and expect to be taken back, you're... well, you're wrong, okay? ~sniffles~ I'm going to go listen to Gloria Gaynor now. She understands my pain.
Most certainly NOT yours,
-Maeglin

(He's been studying English grammar to soothe the pain of his heartbreak. So at least now he's legible, if still not too bright.)

[profile] nobelia, i LOVE you with a fiery passion. i would marry you if i weren't so grossly underage. hell, i'd bear your children, and i hate the little buggers. you are AMAZINGLY AWESOME AND ZOMG I WISH YOU WERE HERE SO I COULD SMOTHER YOU IN LOVE.

~bounces~ [profile] nobelia gave me PoT! PoT! I'm doing the dance of gay tennis player joy right now and trust me, it ain't pretty. I shall now withdraw into my scary scary world of obsessive fandom. i'll emerge sometime next week, and have a spazz-out fit over all the summer reading i have to do. ~snuggles teh Jaela~
meretricula: (Default)
i'll make a proper entry later, but I felt like sharing a story with all my fellow PoT fiends. My big brother, [profile] bobthemagiccow, got the Sims 2 a few weeks ago, and he let me make a family. Of course, how could I resist creating Tezuka Sim? So I have Tezuka, his husband Syuusuke, and their son Ryoma, all living together in a nice little house in the suburbs. Fuji's a total slut, but that's beside the point. So far as I can tell, he's still in love with Tezuka. One can never tell with these Sim people.

I didn't see this happen, but my brother is incensed. Ryoma was apparently visiting one of Taniel's other families, and he stole their garden gnome. His normal outfit is Neo's coat from the Matrix, so he picked up the little lawn ornament and made it vanish under his coat. Taniel called the police, but they just wandered around for a bit and then fined him $500 for calling them for no reason. The upshot: that night my brother sent his Sim to go steal back his garden gnome.

I am infinitely pleased with Ryoma Sim. My brother says I'm raising a household of gay burglars: they break into homes and rearrange the furniture. God, I hope so... it's fun to watch them run around being silly!

Next up for creation: I think I want a Kaidoh, Inui and Momo house...

dumped yet more manga on the family computer to be (eventually) burned to CD. I now have a gig of space free on the computers. what does this mean, kiddies? ...that's right, I'm going to fill it up with more useless shit. but damn if it didn't feel good to shut up the damn "you have no hard-drive space left you stupid bitch" messages my computer keeps giving me. suck on that, blue iMac of doom!

in other news...

ZOMG HYOUTEI ROOMMATES ARC IS FINISHED BRAIN GOES SQUOOSH AND DIES.

that's all, folks
